SUNDAY SERVICE ON ZOOM 7TH FEBRUARY 2021

Geoff read Psalm 37 v 4 – Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.

He also read Ephesians 2 v 4 – 5.  But because of his great love for us, God who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions – it is by grace you have been saved.

Geoff prayed praising God saying that He is high above all things, problems, situations and worries.

“We exalt you because you alone are high above the earth”.

Geoff chatted about God is longing to have communion with us, that we can all see each other’s faces on Zoom but God looks into our hearts. God is looking at us all the time.  He sees us when we are not on Zoom. He loves us and wants the best for us.

On the first Sunday of the month Frome Christian Fellowship partakes of Holy Communion during the service.

Geoff asked us to examine ourselves. To come before his table in the right manner and attitude. To be calm and be in line with God.  He urged us to give God our disappointments. Confess our sins to allow God to cleanse us from unrighteousness.

We were reminded to remember what God had done for us. To be grateful and thank God for what he has done.

A member read a verse from a hymn called “Here, O my Lord, I see Thee face to face” by Horatius Bonar.

“Mine is the sin, but Thine the righteousness;
Mine is the guilt, but Thine the cleansing blood.
Here is my robe, my refuge and my peace.
Thy blood, Thy righteousness, O Lord my God.”

Geoff’s sermon was about the Holy Spirit.   The Holy Spirit is part of the Trinity.  It feels like he has a small part but He is equal with the Son and the Father. In the first two verses of Genesis it tells us that when the earth was formless and empty.  There was darkness over the surface of the deep but the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.  The Holy Spirit has always been involved in the Earth and still is.  We often think that the Holy Spirit is a ghost but He is a person in his own right.

In the bible it tells us that the Holy Spirit teaches us, helps our memory, brings to recognition scriptures, and guides us into all truth.  The Holy Spirit is an essential part of who we are as Christians.

We must respect the Holy Spirit.  All sins can be forgiven except blaspheming Him.

We receive power from the Holy Spirit.  At the start of Jesus three year ministry the Holy Spirit came upon him as a dove. In the book of Acts the Holy Spirit came down upon the early church believers.

The Holy Spirit gives us all the gifts we need to live for Christ and to do his work. There are four things which are good not to do.

Do not blaspheme the Holy Spirit.  Blaspheme means to insult the Holy Spirit and take his name in vain.  In Mark 3 v 29 it tells us that this will never be forgiven and it is an eternal sin.

Do not grieve the Holy Spirit.  Grieving means to bring hurt, sorrow or sadness.

We don’t realise we can do this by what we think, say or do. The Holy Spirit is as gentle as a dove and can be easily frightened away because of our actions.

Do not resist the Holy Spirit.  We resist him by going against what he is doing. This may be through ignorance or by being awkward because we do not like what he is doing. Acts 7 v 51 “You stiff-necked people, with uncircumcised hearts and ears.  You are just like your fathers; you always resist the Holy Spirit”.

Do not quench the Holy Spirit.  To quench means to dampen and to extinguish.  The Holy Spirit comes to help and encourage us.  Allow Him to have the reign in our lives.  We need to understand what God is saying to us in this day and age.  Allow him to have full range in your life.  Be encouraged if God is for us who can be against us – Romans 8 v 31.
